María Lucía Hiriart Rodríguez (born December 10, 1923 – died December 16, 2021) was a well-known public figure in Chile. She was married to Augusto Pinochet, who was the leader of Chile for many years. As his wife, she held the important role of First Lady of Chile.

Lucía Hiriart was born in Antofagasta, Chile, on December 10, 1923. Her family was quite wealthy. Her father, Osvaldo Hiriart Corvalán, was a lawyer. He also served as a senator (a member of the country's law-making body) and a government minister. Her mother was Lucía Rodríguez Auda de Hiriart, who had family roots from the Basque region of France.

Her Role as First Lady

As the wife of the country's leader, Lucía Hiriart became the First Lady of Chile. This role often involves supporting the president and taking part in social and charitable activities. She was the First Lady from December 17, 1974, until March 11, 1990. During this time, she was involved with various organizations.

CEMA Chile Organization

One of the main organizations Lucía Hiriart was involved with was called CEMA Chile. This was a non-governmental organization (NGO) that aimed to help people in Chile. She led this organization for many years. In 2015, she decided to step down from her role at CEMA Chile.

Personal Life and Later Years

Lucía Hiriart married Augusto Pinochet Ugarte on January 30, 1943. At the time, he was a lieutenant in the Chilean Army. They had a large family together, with five children. Their children were three daughters named Inés Lucía, María Verónica, and Jacqueline Marie, and two sons named Augusto Osvaldo and Marco Antonio.

In her later years, Lucía Hiriart continued to live in Santiago, Chile. She passed away on December 16, 2021, at the age of 98, due to heart failure.
