Leopold Suhodolčan (born August 10, 1928 – died February 8, 1980) was a famous writer from Slovenia. He is best known for his amazing books for young readers, like you! He also helped create the Reading Badge of Slovenia competition. This competition still encourages kids in primary school to read and love books.
About Leopold Suhodolčan
Suhodolčan was born in a town called Žiri in 1928. He worked as a teacher and even a headmaster in Prevalje. This town is in a part of Slovenia called Slovenian Carinthia.
Even though he wrote some books for grown-ups, he became much more famous for his stories for children. His children's books were so good that they were translated and published in other countries too. He passed away in Golnik in 1980. Today, there's a special room dedicated to him at the Central Carinthian Library in Ravne na Koroškem.
Awards and Recognition
Leopold Suhodolčan won a very important award called the Levstik Award two times. He won it first in 1965 for his book Velikan in Pajac, which means The Giant and the Clown. He won it again in 1979 for his book Piko Dinozaver (Piko the Dinosaur) and some of his other works. These awards show how much his writing was loved and respected.
