Leota, Missouri facts for kids
Leota is a small place in the southwestern part of Howell County, in the state of Missouri. It's what we call an "unincorporated community." This means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Leota is found right on Missouri Route 142. It's also about two miles north of the border between Missouri and Arkansas.

How Leota Got Started
Leota had its own post office for many years. It first opened in 1902. People living there could send and receive mail right in their community. The post office stayed open for over 50 years. It finally closed its doors in 1953.
Who Was Leota?
The community of Leota was named after a real person! Her name was Leota Cook. She was the daughter of an important person who worked in mining. So, the name Leota honors her.
