Leslie George Reed (born August 16, 1932 – died May 25, 2021) was an Australian rules footballer. He played for the Geelong Cats in the VFL (Victorian Football League) during the early 1950s. The VFL is now known as the AFL.
Early Life and Family
Leslie George Reed was born in Yea, Victoria on August 16, 1932. His parents were Thomas William and Dorothy Jean Reed. He later married Joan "Mickey" Heathcote on October 9, 1954.
Football Career
Playing for Geelong (VFL)
Les Reed was a versatile player who could play in different positions. He joined the Geelong team from Euroa.
He was part of the Geelong team that won the 1951 premiership. Geelong beat Essendon in a close game, 11.15 (81) to 10.10 (70). Les Reed started the game as the 19th man, which meant he was a reserve player. He came onto the field during the match to replace an injured teammate, Loy Stewart.
In 1953, Les Reed also played on the wing in the Grand Final. However, Geelong lost this game to Collingwood, 8.17 (65) to 11.11 (77).
