Lesley Joy Rogers (born July 31, 1943) is an amazing Australian scientist. She is a neurobiologist and a professor at the University of New England. A neurobiologist studies the brain and nervous system. Professor Rogers also studies how animals behave. She is an emeritus professor, which means she has retired but still keeps her title because of her important work.
Her Education and Career
Lesley Rogers started her journey in science at the University of Adelaide. She earned her first science degree there in 1964. After that, she worked at several famous universities. These included Harvard University and the University of Sussex.
She earned two very high degrees from the University of Sussex. These are called a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in 1971 and a Doctor of Science (DSc) in 1987. These degrees show she is an expert in her field.
Awards and Recognition
Professor Rogers has received many important awards for her research. In 2000, she became a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science. This is a big honor for scientists in Australia.
In 2003, she won the Clarke Medal for her work in zoology. This award comes from the Royal Society of New South Wales. She also received the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Research. This award recognized her outstanding research at her university. She also got the Centenary Medal in 2003.
In 2009, Professor Rogers joined a special group. It was the Voiceless Scientific Expert Advisory Panel. This group helps to protect animals.
