Leslie Dunner was born in New York City. He loved music from a young age. He went to the University of Rochester's Eastman School of Music. He earned his first degree there in 1978.

He continued his studies at Queens College. There, he earned a master's degree in music in 1979. Later, he earned a special doctorate degree. This was in orchestral conducting from the University of Cincinnati in 1982.

First Teaching Role

After finishing his studies, Dunner began teaching. From 1982 to 1986, he was an Assistant Professor. He also directed instrumental music at Carleton College. This college is located in Northfield, Minnesota.

Leading Orchestras: A Conductor's Path

Leslie Dunner became a music director for the first time in 1996. He led the Symphony Nova Scotia. He stayed with this orchestra for three seasons. A season usually means a year of concerts.

Taking on New Challenges

In 1998, while still working with Symphony Nova Scotia, Dunner took on another big role. He became the music director for the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra. This shows how talented and busy he was, leading two orchestras at once!
