Lessendrum facts for kids
Lessendrum is an old, ruined house that was once a strong, castle-like home. It is located about 7.65 kilometers (or 4.75 miles) north of a town called Huntly in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Today, Lessendrum is on a special list called the Buildings at Risk Register. This means it's an important old building that needs attention and care.
The Story of Lessendrum
Lessendrum was the family home for a long time to the Bisset of Lessendrum family. They were given this land way back in 1252. Soon after, the Bisset family built a strong house there to protect themselves.
Over many years, the house was changed and updated several times. It was first made bigger in 1470, then again in 1816, and finally in 1836. A famous architect named Archibald Simpson helped with the changes in 1836.
Sadly, in 1928, a big fire destroyed the house. The fire started because of a problem with the heating system in the furnace room. Now, only parts of the old house remain, and they are covered in green ivy.
