Lewis Jetta's Football Journey
Starting Out in Football
Lewis Jetta began his football journey playing for junior teams. He played for the Carey Park Junior Football Club in Bunbury, Western Australia. Later, he joined the Western Australian Football League (WAFL) club Swan Districts.
In 2007, he was part of the Swan Districts' "colts" team, which is for younger players, and they won a championship. Even though he played well, he wasn't chosen in the 2007 AFL Draft.
After that, Lewis went back to his hometown of Bunbury. He played for the Bridgetown Football Club for one season. In 2009, he returned to Swan Districts to play senior football.
Joining the AFL Teams
Lewis Jetta was chosen by the Sydney Swans in the 2009 AFL Draft. He was the 14th player picked overall. This was a big moment for him, as it meant he would play in the top league.
He is known for being a very fast and skilled player. Before joining the AFL, he played for Western Australia in a special game against South Australia in 2009. He scored three goals in that game, showing his talent.
Lewis has family connections in football too. His cousin, Neville Jetta, played for the Melbourne team. His brother, Graham Jetta, also played for Swan Districts.
Playing for the Sydney Swans
In his first AFL season in 2010, Lewis Jetta had an unusual start. He kicked 19 "behinds" (worth one point each) before finally scoring his first "goal" (worth six points). When he kicked that first goal, the crowd cheered loudly for him!
He also took part in the 2010 AFL Grand Final sprint race, representing the Sydney Swans. He finished third, showing off his amazing speed.
The 2011 season was a bit tough for Lewis. He didn't have as much impact in games. However, he worked very hard and had a fantastic 2012 season. He improved his speed, kicking, and decision-making.
In 2011, he only kicked 9 goals for the whole season. But by the middle of 2012, he had already kicked 36 goals! This made him the top goal scorer for the Swans and one of the best in the whole competition. His hard work in the off-season really paid off.
In June 2013, Lewis decided to stay with the Sydney Swans for two more seasons.
Moving to West Coast Eagles
In October 2015, Lewis Jetta moved to a new team, the West Coast Eagles. This happened through a "trade," where players switch clubs. He played for the Eagles until the end of the 2020 AFL season.
After the 2020 season, Lewis Jetta was "delisted," which means he was no longer on the team's list of players. This marked the end of his professional AFL career.
