Lewis Jetta's Football Journey
Starting Out in Football
Lewis Jetta started playing football when he was young. He played for the Carey Park Junior Football Club in Bunbury. This was a local team in Western Australia. Later, he played for a team called Swan Districts. He even helped them win a championship in 2007.
After that, he went back to his hometown of Bunbury. He played for the Bridgetown Football Club for one season. Then, in 2009, Lewis returned to Swan Districts. This time, he played for their senior team.
Joining the AFL
In 2009, Lewis Jetta was chosen by the Sydney Swans. He was the 14th player picked in the 2009 AFL Draft. This was a big moment for him. He was known for being small but incredibly quick. He also had great skills with the ball.
Before joining the AFL, Lewis played for Western Australia. He played against South Australia in June 2009. He kicked three goals in that game. One of his goals was the winning goal in the final minutes. Lewis also has family who play football. His cousin, Neville Jetta, played for Melbourne. His brother, Graham Jetta, played for Swan Districts.
Playing for the Sydney Swans
Lewis Jetta made his AFL debut in 2010. In his first season, he had a funny streak. He kicked 19 "behinds" (worth one point) before scoring his first "goal" (worth six points). When he finally kicked his first goal, the crowd cheered loudly.
In 2011, Lewis had a bit of a tough year. He found it hard to get the ball often. But he worked very hard and had an amazing pre-season. This helped him improve a lot for the 2012 season. He became much faster and better at kicking. He also made smarter decisions on the field. In 2012, he kicked 45 goals. This made him the top goal scorer for the Sydney Swans. He also helped the Swans win the AFL Grand Final that year. It was a huge achievement!
Lewis signed a new contract with the Sydney Swans in 2013. He stayed with them for two more seasons.
Moving to the West Coast Eagles
In October 2015, Lewis Jetta moved to a new team. He joined the West Coast Eagles. He continued to play well for them. In 2018, he helped the West Coast Eagles win the AFL Grand Final. This was his second AFL premiership! He also won the Chris Mainwaring Medal in 2018. This award is given to a player who shows great spirit and effort.
Lewis Jetta played his last AFL game in 2020. He retired after playing 202 games and kicking 116 goals in his career.
Family Life
Lewis Jetta has two children. His son, Lewis Oliver Miller Jetta, was born in December 2010. His daughter, Daisy Ivy Miller Jetta, was born in August 2013.
