The Lewisia triphylla, also known as the threeleaf lewisia, is a beautiful flowering plant. It belongs to the Montiaceae plant family. This plant is special because it grows in some of the most amazing places in western North America.

About the Threeleaf Lewisia

The threeleaf lewisia is a type of plant called a perennial herb. This means it lives for more than two years. It grows back each year from its roots. It has a strong taproot and a special underground stem called a corm. These help it store food and water.

Where Does It Grow?

You can find the threeleaf lewisia in western North America. It grows from British Columbia in Canada all the way down to California and over to Colorado in the United States. This plant loves mountain and forest areas. It often grows in wet, rocky places high up in the mountains, where the weather is cold and snowy. It can even start to bloom while the snow is still melting!

How Does It Look?

Unlike some other Lewisia plants, the threeleaf lewisia doesn't have a big bunch of leaves at its base. Instead, it grows 2 to 5 short, thin, and fleshy leaves. These leaves come from the lower part of its stem, sometimes even from under the ground.

The plant has a small stem that holds its flowers. It can have anywhere from 1 to 25 flowers on one stem. Each flower is small and can be white or pinkish. You might even see darker lines or stripes on its petals, which makes it look very pretty. It usually has 5 to 9 petals on each flower.
