Liam William Peter Miller (born 13 February 1981 – died 9 February 2018) was a professional footballer from Ireland. He played as a Midfielder. Liam began his career at Celtic in Scotland. Later, he joined famous clubs like Manchester United and Sunderland. He also played for teams in Australia and his hometown club, Cork City. Liam represented the Republic of Ireland internationally, playing 21 games for his country. He sadly passed away at the age of 36.

Early Life and Football Dreams
Liam Miller was born in Cork, Ireland. His dad, Billy Miller, was from Scotland and loved Celtic. Liam grew up in Ovens, County Cork. As a boy, he played Gaelic games for his local club, Éire Óg. He also played for Cork GAA at a young age. Liam said his family was his biggest influence in football. Famous managers like Martin O'Neill and Sir Alex Ferguson also helped his career.

Liam Miller played for many different football clubs during his career. He started in Scotland, moved to England, then Australia, and even played in the United States.
Starting at Celtic F.C.
Liam joined Celtic in 1997 as a young player. He made his first professional league appearance on 21 May 2000. This was against Dundee United. In 2001, he went on a six-month loan to AGF Aarhus in Denmark. He played 18 games there.
When he returned to Celtic, he started to play more. On 30 July 2003, he scored his first professional goal in a UEFA Champions League qualifier. He also scored against Lyon in the group stage. His manager, Martin O'Neill, wanted him to stay. Liam helped Celtic win the 2003–04 Scottish Premier League title.
Moving to Manchester United
Even though Celtic offered him a new deal, Liam signed with Manchester United in 2004. He joined them for free after his contract with Celtic ended. He made his debut for Manchester United on 11 August 2004. This was in a Champions League game against Dinamo Bucharest.
Liam scored his first goal for the club against Crewe Alexandra in the League Cup. He played 22 games for Manchester United in total. He later said that even though it didn't work out perfectly, he didn't regret trying.
Loan to Leeds United
In November 2005, Liam joined Leeds United on loan. He stayed there until the end of the 2005–06 season. He scored one goal for Leeds in a thrilling 4–3 win against Southampton. He played in the play-off final in 2006, but Leeds lost. He played 28 games for Leeds.
Playing for Sunderland
In August 2006, Liam moved to Sunderland for free. He joined his former teammate Roy Keane, who was then the manager. Liam made his debut for Sunderland on 9 September 2006. He scored his first goal for them in the next game against Leeds. Sunderland won the league that season and returned to the Premier League.

Liam scored his first Premier League goal for Sunderland in September 2007. It was against Middlesbrough, and his late goal helped Sunderland draw 2–2. He played 57 games for Sunderland, scoring 3 goals.
Time at Queens Park Rangers
In January 2009, Liam joined Queens Park Rangers (QPR). He signed a contract until the end of the season. He played 13 games for QPR before leaving in May 2009.
Joining Hibernian F.C.

In June 2011, Liam moved to Australia to play for Perth Glory in the A-League. He played 44 games and scored 2 goals for them. In 2013, he joined Brisbane Roar. He helped Brisbane win the A-League Championship in 2014. He played 21 games and scored 3 goals for Brisbane.
After leaving Brisbane, Liam briefly played for Melbourne City in 2014.
Later Career and Hometown Club
In 2015, Liam joined his hometown club, Cork City, in Ireland. He played 29 games for them. His team finished second in the league and the FAI Cup. In 2016, he moved to the United States to play for Wilmington Hammerheads. He played 25 games and scored 1 goal there.
In 2017, Liam also worked as an assistant coach for Real Monarchs.
International Career for Ireland
Liam Miller played for the Republic of Ireland at different age levels. He was part of the team that won the UEFA European Under-16 Football Championship in 1998.
He made his debut for the senior Republic of Ireland team on 31 March 2004. This was in a game against the Czech Republic. His first goal for Ireland came on 1 March 2006 in a 3–0 win against Sweden. He played 21 games for his country and scored one international goal.
Personal Life and Passing
Liam Miller was married to Clare, and they had three children together: two sons and a daughter.
In November 2017, it was announced that Liam was getting treatment for pancreatic cancer. He passed away on 9 February 2018, just four days before his 37th birthday.
A special football match was played on 25 September 2018 to raise money for Liam's family and charities. The game was held in Cork and featured a team of former Manchester United players against a team of former Celtic and Republic of Ireland players.
