By 1936, Liberty Grove was a farming community. It had a school where children learned. There was also a cemetery. This is a place where people are buried. It shows that families lived and grew old there. In 1966, about 25 people still lived in Liberty Grove. It was a very small place.
Why Liberty Grove Disappeared
In 1989, a big change happened. The community's cemetery had to be moved. This was because a new lake was being built. The lake was called Cooper Lake, also known as Jim Chapman Lake. After the cemetery was moved, the community was left empty. The land was then flooded by the new lake. This is why Liberty Grove became a ghost town.
Liberty Grove Today
Even though the town is gone, its name lives on. There is a campsite in Cooper Lake State Park named after Liberty Grove. This helps remember the community that once existed there.
