Library Lion is a popular children's picture book. It was written by Michelle Knudsen and beautifully illustrated by Kevin Hawkes. The book was first published in 2006 by Candlewick Press. It quickly became a New York Times best-seller. This heartwarming story is loved by many for its gentle message about rules and friendship.

The Story of Library Lion

The book tells the tale of a very special library. Miss Merriweather is the head librarian. She loves rules and makes sure everyone follows them. No running is allowed, and everyone must be quiet.

One day, a large lion walks into the library. This causes a bit of a problem! There are no rules about lions in the library. So, Miss Merriweather and her assistant, Mr. McBee, are not sure what to do.

It turns out the lion is very well-behaved. He is quiet and gentle. His big paws make no sound on the library floor. He even helps out! Children love to lean against him during story time. He never roars inside the library.

But then, something unexpected happens. Miss Merriweather has an accident. The lion knows he must help her. He does the only thing he can think of. He lets out a huge, loud roar! This breaks the library's main rule.

Mr. McBee is upset that the lion roared. He tells the lion he must leave. The lion sadly walks out of the library. Everyone misses him. Miss Merriweather realizes the lion roared to get help. She sends Mr. McBee to find him. The lion returns, and everyone is happy. Sometimes, breaking a rule is okay if it's for a good reason.
