The Story of Lichtenau
Lichtenau means "pasture of light" in German. This settlement was founded in the late 1700s by missionaries from the Moravian Church. These missionaries were German-speaking Christians who wanted to share their faith with Native American people.
The village was created as a special place for Native Americans who had become Christians. It was a community where they could live and practice their new faith. However, the people living in Lichtenau left the village in 1780, and it became abandoned.
