About the LMEH
The Liga Mexicana Elite de Hockey started on October 2, 2010. The main goal was to help Mexico become a strong competitor in international ice hockey. By having the best players compete, it encourages younger players. It also helps players get ready for the Mexico national ice hockey team. This team plays against other countries.
How Teams Were Formed
The first season (2010–2011) had four teams. These were the Mayan Astronomers, Aztec Eagle Warriors, Teotihuacan Priests, and Zapotec Totems. Players were chosen through a "draft" system. This means players were ranked by skill. Then, each team took turns picking players. This helped make sure all four teams were equally strong.
How the Games Work
Teams play each other four times in a "round robin" system. The team with the most points goes straight to the final game. The teams in second and third place play a special series. The winner of that series then plays the top team in the finals. The champion is the team that wins two out of three games in the final series.
Growing the League
The Mexican Sports Federation Ice Hockey, AC, wanted to add more teams. For the second season, they planned to add a fifth team. This new team would be made of newer players. They could pick some players from the other four teams. However, existing teams could protect some of their best players. The league plans to add a new team each year. The goal is to have eight teams in total.
The Federation also plans to give cash prizes to the winning team. In the future, they hope to pay salaries to all players. They are also looking into bringing in players from other countries.
League Leadership
Since 2023, Gustavo Mendez has been the Commissioner of the LMEH. He is the first person to hold this job. He wants the league to follow three main rules. These are fair play, respect for referees and staff, and giving awards to top players.
In the 2023–24 season, Panagiotis Mavridis joined the Aztec Eagle Warriors. He helped his team win a game with a 2–1 shootout victory.
The Olmec Stone Heads have been very successful. They won three championships in a row! This happened in 2023, 2024, and 2025. In the 2025 final, they beat the Teotihuacan Priests 5-0. This was the biggest win difference for a champion team.
LMEH Teams
The teams play their games at the Centro Santa Fe ice rink. This rink is located in Mexico City.
