Starting His Music Journey
Lil' Troy began his music career in 1987. He started his own music label called Short Stop. In the same year, he joined a music group called Mass 187. One of their songs, "Gangsta Strut," was played on local radio stations.
His Big Hit: "Wanna Be a Baller"
In the late 1990s, Lil' Troy worked with many other rappers from Houston. He became well-known across the country with his song "Wanna Be a Baller". This song was very popular. It reached number 70 on the Billboard Hot 100 music chart.
The success of "Wanna Be a Baller" helped his first album, Sittin' Fat Down South, become popular. This album reached the Top 25 on the Billboard 200 album chart. Because of this success, a major music company, Universal Music Group, re-released his album in 1999. His first album was a huge hit. It sold 1.9 million copies in the U.S. and was certified Platinum.
Later Albums and Career
After his first album, Lil' Troy released another album in 2001 called Back to Ballin. This album did not have a song that made it onto the charts, and it was not as successful as his first one. He released his third album, Paperwork, in 2006.
Later in his career, Lil' Troy started a new path. He became a truck driver. He even started his own company called Birklett Trucking Company. This company is located in Missouri City, Texas.
