A Look Back at Lillian's Past
Lillian got its name from a girl named Lillian Gohean. Her father was the postmaster, which was the person in charge of the local post office.
The first post office in Lillian opened its doors in 1883. Post offices were very important back then. They were the main way people sent letters and packages. They also helped people get news and stay connected. The Lillian post office closed for a while in 1902. But it opened again in 1907. Finally, it closed for good in 1934. This often happened in small communities. People sometimes moved to bigger towns. Also, new ways of communication, like telephones, became popular.
