Discovering Limonar
Limonar is divided into several smaller areas, much like neighborhoods. These areas are called Canímar, Guamacaro, Caoba, Sumidero, Coliseo, and San Miguel. Each one adds to the unique character of the municipality.
A Look at Limonar's History
The town of Limonar was first started in 1876. Back then, it was known by a different name: Guamacaro. It wasn't until the 1950s that its name was changed to Limonar. Around that time, it also officially became a municipality. This means it gained its own local government and could manage its own affairs.
Famous People from Limonar
Limonar is proud to be the hometown of several well-known Cubans. One of the most famous is Javier Sotomayor, a world-record-holding high jumper. Another talented jumper, Marino Drake, also comes from Limonar.
The town is also home to Aimeé García Marrero, a very talented fine art painter. And if you're a baseball fan, you might know Silvio García, a professional baseball player who grew up here.
