Linda Day was a talented American television director. She was best known for directing many popular TV shows, especially funny ones called "sitcoms." Linda was born in Los Angeles, California, on August 12, 1938. Her father, Roy Brickner, also worked in movies as a film editor. Later in her life, when she was 67, Linda married her childhood friend, L. Steve Varnum, in Texas. She passed away on October 23, 2009.

Directing TV Shows

Linda Day began her career in television behind the scenes. She started as a script supervisor. This job means she made sure everything in the script matched what was filmed. She worked on a TV movie called Victory at Entebbe. She also worked on the funny show Soap.

Becoming a Director

In 1978, Linda became an associate director for the show WKRP in Cincinnati. By 1980, she was directing full episodes of the show. This was a big step for her career.

Popular Sitcoms and Dramas

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Linda Day directed many successful sitcoms. She even directed the very first episode, or "pilot," of Married With Children. She went on to direct 32 more episodes of that popular show.

Linda also directed four episodes of the drama series Dallas. These episodes were part of a famous storyline. In this storyline, an entire season's events were later revealed to be just a character's dream. This was a very memorable moment in TV history.

Awards and Recognition

Linda Day was recognized for her amazing work in television. She was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series. This award is one of the highest honors in television.

She also received a Humanitas Prize. This award celebrates TV shows that promote human dignity and freedom. The Directors Guild of America honored her as well. They recognized her for helping to open doors for other women in television. Linda Day directed more than 350 episodes across 50 different TV series. She truly made a big impact!
