Lindsay Blackett is a Canadian politician who served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. He represented the area of Calgary-North West as a member of the Progressive Conservative party. He was also a government minister, responsible for culture and community spirit.

Early Life and Education
Lindsay Blackett was born on February 8, 1961, in Oxford, England. He later moved to Canada. He studied subjects like criminology, which is the study of crime, at Carleton University in Ottawa. He attended from 1979 to 1983.
Before becoming a politician, Blackett worked in sales. He was a technical sales representative. In this job, he helped companies with electronic parts and designs.
Political Journey
Lindsay Blackett has been involved in politics for many years. He held several important roles within the Progressive Conservative party. He was a director for local party groups in Calgary. He also served as president and vice-president for a federal party group in Ottawa.
Blackett was also a youth leader for the party. He helped organize a big meeting for the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada in 1986. He even worked as a special assistant in the Prime Minister of Canada's office.
Becoming an MLA
Blackett first ran for public office in the 2008 Alberta general election. He sought to represent the area of Calgary-North West. In that election, he won with 46% of the votes.
On March 12, 2008, the Premier of Alberta chose Blackett for an important job. He became the Minister of Culture and Community Spirit. This role meant he was in charge of supporting arts, heritage, and community groups in Alberta.
Public Comments and Apology
In June 2010, Blackett spoke at the Banff World Television Festival. He talked about the quality of some TV shows and films made in Alberta. He expressed strong opinions about some of the productions.
His comments were widely reported and caused some debate. People complained about his choice of words. Some politicians even called for him to resign from his minister role. Blackett later apologized for the language he used, but he stood by his opinion about the quality of the productions.
Community Involvement
Lindsay Blackett is married to Jennifer, and they have two children. He has always been very active in his community. He volunteered for many different causes.
He served as a director for the Tuscany Community Association. He was also president of the Canadian Progress Club. This club raises a lot of money each year for charities like Big Brothers and Big Sisters. These charities help children and people in need in Calgary. Blackett also volunteered as a Big Brother and coached soccer and hockey teams.
