Lindsay John Brown was an accountant from New Zealand. He was also a very important leader at the University of Otago. He served as the Chancellor of the university from 2004 to 2008. This role is like being the head of the university.
About Lindsay Brown
Lindsay Brown studied at the University of Otago. He earned a degree in accountancy. An accountant is someone who manages money for businesses and people.
After finishing his studies, he became a partner at Deloitte. This is a very large international company that helps businesses with their money. For ten years, he was in charge of Deloitte's office in Dunedin.
Brown was a member of the Council of the University of Otago for 16 years. The Council helps to run the university. He was the Chancellor for five years, from 2004 to 2008. Before that, he was the Pro-Chancellor, which is like a deputy leader.
After being Chancellor, he continued to help the university. He led a group that advised the School of Business at the University of Otago.
Lindsay Brown also helped the community. He was part of the national board for the Cancer Society of New Zealand. He also led the Otago Southland division of this important organisation.
In 2008, the University of Otago gave Brown a special honorary degree. It was called a Doctor of Laws degree. This is a high honour given to people who have done great things.
In 2011, he received another honour. He was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit. This award recognised his many services to the community.
Lindsay Brown passed away in Dunedin on August 6, 2020, at the age of 76.
