Lindsay James Townsend (born March 3, 1934 – died June 2, 2020) was a famous rugby player from New Zealand. He played for the national team, the All Blacks, in 1955. His position on the field was halfback.

Early Life and Rugby Beginnings
Lindsay Townsend was born in Mataura, New Zealand. He went to school at Christian Brothers School in Dunedin. This is where he first started playing rugby.
Playing for Provincial Teams
Otago and Southern Clubs
In 1953, Townsend played for the University rugby club. In the same year, he also represented the Otago province. From 1954 to 1957, he played for the Southern club in Dunedin.
North Island Rugby
Later, Lindsay moved to the North Island of New Zealand. There, he played for the Kamo club. He also represented the North Auckland team from 1958 to 1963.
Playing for Other New Zealand Teams
Townsend was a very skilled player. He represented the South Island team from 1954 to 1956. He also took part in trials for the New Zealand national team between 1956 and 1959. In 1954 and 1955, he played for the New Zealand XV team. He also played for the "Rest of New Zealand" team in those same years.
Becoming an All Black
Lindsay Townsend was chosen to play for the All Blacks in 1955. He played in two test matches in Australia. He also played one test match at home in New Zealand. These were the only games he played for the All Blacks.
Later Life
Lindsay Townsend passed away in Whangārei on June 2, 2020.
