Line Bonde, born around 1979, is a Danish fighter pilot. In July 2006, when she was 27 years old, she made history. She became the very first female fighter pilot in Denmark! She flew an amazing F-16 jet fighter.
Becoming a Pilot
Line Bonde grew up in Billund, Denmark. Her family was traditional, with her father working full-time and her mother working part-time.
When she was in school, Line was a fantastic swimmer. She even became one of the best swimmers in Denmark! But she wanted to do more.
Her dream of flying began after she took a trial flight. It was in a Danish Air Force Hercules plane. After that flight, she knew she wanted to be a pilot.
Training to Fly
Line tried to join the pilot program, but she didn't pass her first test. It wasn't because of her physical fitness or her knowledge. The person testing her felt she needed to learn more about flying.
She didn't give up! A year later, she tried again and passed. In 2002, she finished her basic flight training. After that, she spent two years at officer school.
Then, she went to the United States for 16 months. She trained at the Sheppard Air Force Base. This was part of a special program called EURO-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training. There, she earned her pilot's wings.
In early 2006, Line Bonde returned to Denmark. She began serving at the Fighter Wing Skrydstrup air force base.
