Lingleville is a small, unincorporated community located in Erath County, Texas, in the United States. The Story of Lingleville
The history of Lingleville began in 1884. That year, a man named R. P. Campbell opened a grocery store. He set up his store right in his own home. This first settlement was in a low area, or "hollow," near where the community stands today.
How Lingleville Got Its Name
Before it was called Lingleville, the community had a different name: Needmore. This name was used before a post office was even built there. Later, the community was renamed to honor John Lingle. He was an important early settler who moved to the area in 1874.

Lingleville has seen its population change throughout the years. In 1940, the community was home to about 200 people. It also had a post office and four different businesses. By the years 1980 through 2000, the population was reported to be around 100 residents.
