Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Linton Mills was once a small town in Coshocton County, Ohio. Today, it's considered a "populated place" by the GNIS (which stands for Geographic Names Information System). This means it's a place that used to have people living there, but it's not an active town anymore.

A Look Back: The History of Linton Mills

Linton Mills began its life in 1847. That's when a sawmill was built there. A sawmill is a place where logs are cut into lumber. This mill likely brought people to the area, helping the small community grow.

A few years later, in 1853, Linton Mills got its own post office. This was a big deal for the people living there! It made sending and receiving mail much easier. The very first person in charge of the post office was named George Washington Phillips. The post office stayed open for many years, but it closed down in 1901. After the post office closed, the town slowly faded away, becoming what some call a "ghost town."
