Lisa Azuelos (born Elise-Anne Bethsabée Azuelos on November 6, 1965) is a French film director, writer, and producer. She is famous for directing popular movies like LOL (Laughing Out Loud). She is also the daughter of the well-known French singer and actress Marie Laforêt.
Early Life and Family
Lisa Azuelos was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, a town near Paris, France. Her mother was the famous French star Marie Laforêt, and her father was Judas Azuelos, a businessman from a Moroccan Jewish family. This part of her family background is known as Sephardic, which refers to Jewish people whose ancestors lived in Spain and Portugal.
When Lisa was two years old, her parents separated. She and her brother had a difficult childhood, which included living at a boarding school in Switzerland and later with a family in a small French village.
At the age of twelve, Lisa went to live with her father. It was during this time that she learned more about her family's Sephardic culture and traditions.
Career and Personal Life
As a young adult, Lisa entered the world of filmmaking. She was introduced to film producer Patrick Alessandrin by the famous director Luc Besson. Lisa and Patrick later married and had three children: Carmen, Illan, and Thaïs. After 11 years, they divorced.
Lisa started her own film production company called Bethsabée Mucho. She named it in honor of her great-grandmother on her father's side, Bethsabée.
