Lisa Mantini is an American mathematician who has taught many students about math. She is known for her excellent teaching skills and for helping lead important math organizations.

Lisa Mantini studied math at some really great schools. She earned a special degree called a Bachelor of Science from the University of Pittsburgh. After that, she went to Harvard University where she earned two more advanced degrees: a Master of Arts and a PhD. All of her degrees were in mathematics, showing how much she loves the subject!

Teaching Math to Students

Before 1985, Lisa Mantini taught at Wellesley College. Then, in 1985, she started teaching at Oklahoma State University. She is a fantastic teacher! In 1995, she received a very special award called the Deborah and Franklin Haimo Award. This is the highest honor a college or university math teacher can get from the Mathematical Association of America.

In 1998, she also taught a special course for young women interested in math. This course was at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey, and it helped encourage more women to study mathematics.

Leading the Math Community

Lisa Mantini has also played a big role in the Mathematical Association of America, which is a group for math teachers and experts. She served as a "Governor" for the Oklahoma-Arkansas section of this group two times. Her first term was from 2002 to 2005, and her second was from 2014 to 2017. She was the very first person to serve as Governor for this section twice! This shows how much she is respected in the math world.

Important Writings

Lisa Mantini has written many important papers about complex math topics. She also helped write a book called Teaching Mathematics in Colleges and Universities: Case Studies for Today's Classroom. This book helps other teachers learn new ways to teach math.

Lisa Mantini has received several awards for her amazing work:

  • 1994: She was named one of the "Distinguished College/University Teachers of Mathematics" by the Oklahoma-Arkansas Section of the Mathematical Association of America. Only one teacher was chosen each year for this honor!
