Lisa Shaw was born in Scarborough, Ontario, a part of Toronto, Canada. Her parents were from Jamaica, and she was the youngest of six children. Growing up, she loved listening to a wide variety of musicians. Her favorites included Sade, Billie Holiday, Stevie Nicks, Roberta Flack, and Kate Bush.
When she was young, her older sisters would take her to clubs. There, she discovered disco and funk music from bands like Chic and Kool & the Gang. These early experiences helped shape her own musical style.
Starting Her Music Career
In 1995, Lisa Shaw moved to New York City. This move was a big step for her career in music. In New York, she became a part of the city's deep house music scene. This is a type of electronic dance music known for its soulful and relaxed feel.
