  • Soon after, a major fight called the Battle of Liscarroll happened nearby.
  • After this battle, British forces, commanded by Murrough O'Brien, 1st Earl of Inchiquin, managed to take the castle back. This shows how important the castle was for controlling the area.

A Military Outpost in the 20th Century

Even centuries later, Liscarroll Castle continued to play a role in military history.

  • During the Irish War of Independence (1919-1921), a group of British soldiers called the 17th Lancers used the castle as a small military base.
  • However, in 1921, after a surprise attack by the IRA, the soldiers left the outpost.
