Lise Roel (born 1928) and Hugo Höstrup (1928–2004) were famous architects. They were both born in Randers, Denmark. Most of their work happened between 1960 and 1980 in western and southern Sweden.
Becoming Architects
Lise Roel and Hugo Höstrup both finished their architecture studies in 1954. They graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. After their studies, they worked in Rome for a while. Later, they joined an architecture company in Halmstad in 1957.
Their Own Company
In 1967, Lise and Hugo started their very own architecture office. They worked there until 1981, when they moved to the south of France.
What They Designed
Lise and Hugo mostly designed public buildings. This included schools, police stations, and apartment buildings. They also worked on city improvements and restoring old buildings. Between 1960 and 1980, they won about 20 architecture contests.
Hugo Höstrup's designs were shown in art galleries. These included Kunsthal Charlottenborg and Louisiana in Denmark. His work was also displayed at the Swedish Centre for Architecture and Design. Their buildings, even their two private homes in France, were featured in many magazines. Lise and Hugo were also good friends with famous furniture designer Poul Kjærholm and his wife, architecture professor Hanne Kjærholm.
