About Lisi Harrison
Lisi Harrison was born Elyse E. Gottlieb on July 29, 1970. She grew up in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, with her parents and siblings.
Early Education and College
Lisi went to a Hebrew elementary school. Later, she attended Forest Hill Collegiate Institute for high school. After high school, she started studying film at McGill University. However, after two years, she decided to switch her focus to writing. She transferred to Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts, where she earned a degree in creative writing.
Lisi's Writing Journey
Before becoming a full-time author, Lisi Harrison worked for 12 years at MTV in New York City. She was a Senior Director, helping to develop new shows for the network.
Inspiration from MTV
Lisi shared that working at MTV taught her a lot about what teenagers like. She learned how to keep people interested and that everyone wants to feel like they belong. This experience at MTV actually inspired her bestselling series, The Clique. She felt that the world of MTV reminded her a lot of middle school life.
Becoming a Full-Time Author
Lisi started writing the first two books in The Clique series while she was still working at MTV. This way, she would have a job even if her writing career didn't take off. But The Clique series became incredibly popular, selling over 9 million copies! Because of this huge success, Lisi left her job at MTV in June 2004 to focus completely on writing.
