List of Legendary Pictish monarchs facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Picts were an ancient people who lived in what is now Scotland. This list tells you about some of their very early rulers, from 822 BC all the way to 312 AD. These kings are often called "legendary" because their stories might not be entirely true, like old myths or folk tales. For example, one king named Gilgidi is said to have ruled for 150 years, which is much longer than any human could live! Because of these amazing stories, we think of these rulers as part of the Pictish legends rather than real historical figures. If you want to learn about the kings we know more about from history, check out the List of Pictish kings which continues from 312 AD.

Ancient Rulers: Before Christ (BC)

The letters "BC" stand for "Before Christ." This is a way we count years backwards from the year that Jesus Christ was traditionally believed to have been born. So, 822 BC means 822 years before that time. Here are some of the legendary Pictish kings from this very old period:

  • Circin (822-782 BC)
  • Fidach (782-742 BC)
  • Floclaid (742-712 BC)
  • Got (712-700 BC)
  • Ce (700-685 BC)
  • Fibaid (685-661 BC)
  • Gede-olgudach (661-581 BC)
  • Denbecan (581-481 BC)
  • Oflinecta (481-421 BC)
  • Guidid-gaed-brechach (421-371 BC)
  • Gest-gurgich (371-331 BC)
  • Wurgest (331-301 BC)
  • Gilgidi (331-181 BC)
  • Tharain (181-81 BC)
  • Morleo (81-66 BC)
  • Deocliunon (66-26 BC)
  • Cimoiod (26-19 BC)
  • Deoord (19 BC-31 AD)

Later Legendary Kings: Anno Domini (AD)

"AD" stands for "Anno Domini," which is Latin for "in the year of the Lord." This is how we count years from the traditional birth year of Jesus Christ onwards. So, 31 AD means 31 years after that time. Here are the legendary Pictish kings from this period, leading up to when more historically proven kings began to rule:

  • Deoord (19 BC-31 AD) - This king's reign started before Christ and continued into the AD period.
  • Bliesblituth (31-36 AD)
  • Dectotric (36-76 AD)
  • Usconbuts (76-106 AD)
  • Carvost (106-126 AD)
  • Deo Ardivois (126-146 AD)
  • Vist (146-196 AD)
  • Ru (196-296 AD)
  • Gartnait Ioc (296-305 AD)
  • Breth (305-312 AD)
