List of The Shapeshifter characters facts for kids
This article introduces the exciting characters from The Shapeshifter, a popular book series by Ali Sparkes. The story follows Dax Jones, a special boy who can change his shape, and his amazing friends. These friends are called the Children Of Limitless Abilities, or COLAs for short. The series is full of many interesting characters, including a group of 111 COLAs, though only a few are named, like the special True 11.
Main characters
Daxesh "Dax" Robert Jones
Dax Jones, usually called Dax, is the main hero of the series. He is known as 'The Shapeshifter'. Dax is one of the very last COLAs to be discovered. He is also the only shapeshifter, besides a boy who could turn into a wolf but is no longer around. Dax first found his powers in a scary moment. He was stuck in a hot shed filled with a strong smell. To escape and breathe, he suddenly changed into a fox! This was his very first animal form.
Soon after, Owen, one of the COLA club teachers, found Dax. Owen used a special liquid to make Dax panic. This caused Dax to change into a fox again. After Owen explained everything and apologized, Dax went to Tregarren College. There, he met the other COLAs and became a student. He was the only shapeshifter at the college after the wolf boy's death.
Many exciting events happen in the five books that follow. Dax learns to control and improve his shapeshifting skills. We eventually discover that a shapeshifter can only take on three different animal forms. We also learn that Dax's mother, who was like an 'alien', was also a shapeshifter. By the end of the five books, Dax can turn into three different animals:
- Fox – This is Dax's most natural and favorite form. It was the first animal he ever changed into.
- Peregrine falcon – This is Dax's second form. He gained this power when he was trapped as a fox in a cave. A wolf spirit told him to 'take it to the wing', and he changed into a falcon.
- Otter – This is Dax's third and final form. He discovered this ability when he dove into the Atlantic Ocean during a big battle in the fifth book.
Gideon Michael Reader
Gideon is a Telekinetic. This means he can move objects with his mind.
Lisa Hardman
Lisa Hardman has several special abilities. She is a Clairvoyant, which means she can see things that are not physically present. She is also a dowser, able to find hidden water or minerals. Lastly, she is a medium, meaning she can communicate with spirits.
Lisa is a very determined and strong-willed teenage girl. At the start of the story, she doesn't want to accept her powers. But after she becomes good friends with Dax, she starts to understand and use her abilities. Lisa comes from a wealthy family and cares deeply for her father.
Mia Cooper
Mia Cooper has two amazing powers. She is a healer, meaning she can help others recover from injuries or sickness. She is also a pyrokinetic, which means she can create and control fire with her mind.
