List of breweries in Armenia facts for kids
Armenia has a long history of making beer, going back to ancient times! This article tells you about the different places in Armenia where beer is made, called breweries. These breweries make many kinds of beer, and some have been around for a very long time.
Big Breweries in Armenia
As of July 2018, several large companies make beer in Armenia. Here are some of the main ones:
Beer of Yerevan Brewery
This brewery opened in 1952 and is the biggest one in Armenia. They make many different types of beer, including:
- Kilikia Lager
- Kilikia 1952
- Kilikia Elitar
- Kilikia Dark (a darker type of beer)
- Yerevan Premium
Gyumri Beer Brewery
This brewery is located in the city of Gyumri. It opened in 1970, making it the second largest brewery in Armenia. But get this – the original brewery in Gyumri started way back in 1898! Today, they make several types of beer under names like Gyumri, Ararat, and Aleksandrapol. Some of their beers include:
- Aleksandrapol
- Ararat
- Gyumri Czech
- Gyumri Gold
- Gyumri Unfiltered Beer (beer that hasn't been filtered)
- Red Limited (a dark beer)
Kotayk Brewery
This brewery is in Abovyan and started in 1974. It's the third largest brewery in Armenia. They produce different kinds of lager beer, such as:
- Kotayk
- Kotayk Gold
- Erebuni (a stronger type of lager)
- Urartu
Lihnitis Sevan Brewery
Located in Sevan, this brewery opened in 2007. They make a bottled beer called Kellers. They also have a pub where they serve special beers that are only available there, like:
- Kellers Gold Draught (unfiltered)
- Kellers Dark Draught (a dark, unfiltered beer)
Hayasy Group
The Hayasy Group brewery is in Voskevaz and started in 2011. They bottle three types of lager beer:
- Hayasy Classic
- Hayasy Black (a black beer)
- Hayasy Exclusive
Dilijan Brewery
You can find the Dilijan Brewery in Dilijan. It opened in 2016 and makes several kinds of beer, including:
- Dilijan 1 (a non-alcoholic option and a regular pale lager)
- Dilijan 3 (a wheat beer)
- Dilijan 4 (a dark lager)
Dargett Brewery
The Dargett Brewery started in 2016 in Yerevan as a brewpub. Later, in 2019, they opened a bigger brewery near Abovyan. They are known for making many different types of unfiltered craft beers, such as:
- Dargett Steppenwolf (a Bavarian wheat beer)
- Dargett La Rapsodia (a Bohemian pilsner)
- Dargett Vertigo (an India pale ale)
- Dargett Uncle Raffi's (an apple cider)
- Dargett Morello (a cherry ale)
- Dargett Seven Sins (a Belgian tripel)
- Dargett 1984 (an oatmeal stout)
- Dargett Pumpkin (a pumpkin ale)
Smaller Breweries and Brewpubs
As of 2019, Armenia also has several smaller breweries, often called microbreweries or brewpubs. These places usually make and serve their own beer directly to customers.
Alaverdi Draft Beer
This microbrewery in Alaverdi has been around since 1947! They serve many types of unfiltered beer in different pubs across Armenia.
AM Group
The AM Group microbrewery is in Tairov. It opened in 1998 and serves its own unfiltered Jäger Armenia beer. They also make a traditional fermented drink called Roskvas.
Blonder Beer House and Brewery
Located in Yerevan, this place opened in 2000. They serve three types of their own unfiltered Blonder Slovak pilsner beer.
Beer Academy Yerevan
The Beer Academy is a brewpub in Yerevan that opened in 2012. They make and serve seven types of unfiltered beer right there, including:
- Academia Pils
- Academia Dunkel (a dark beer)
- Academia Ginger (a ginger-flavored lager)
- Academia Weizen (a wheat beer, available seasonally)
Tovmas Craft Beer
Tovmas Craft Beer is another brewery in Yerevan that started in 2016. They make two types of unfiltered beer:
- Tovmas Light
- Tovmas Dark
Vladimir Hakobyan Brewery
This microbrewery is in the village of Dovegh. It opened in 2017 and makes an unfiltered dark beer called Dovegh's.
