How Goa is Organized
Goa is divided into two main districts, North Goa and South Goa. Think of these districts like big regions. Each district is then broken down into smaller areas to make it easier to manage. These smaller areas are called subdivisions and taluks. A taluk is like a smaller administrative area within a district, often centered around a main town.
North Goa's Divisions
North Goa is split into three subdivisions:
- Panaji
- Mapusa
- Bicholim
Within these subdivisions, there are five taluks:
- Tiswadi (where Panaji is located)
- Bardez (where Mapusa is located)
- Pernem
- Bicholim
- Sattari (where Valpoi is located)
South Goa's Divisions
South Goa is divided into five subdivisions:
- Ponda
- Mormugao (where Vasco da Gama is located)
- Margao
- Quepem
- Dharbandora
This district has seven taluks:
- Ponda
- Mormugao
- Salcete (where Margao is located)
- Quepem
- Canacona (where Chaudi is located)
- Sanguem
- Dharbandora
It's interesting to note that the Ponda Taluka used to be part of North Goa but moved to South Goa in January 2015.
