The city of Orlando, Florida, became an official city in 1875. The first person to hold the job of mayor was William Jackson Brack, who started in 1875. In Orlando, the mayor is chosen in a special kind of election called a nonpartisan election. This means that when people vote for mayor, the candidates don't have a political party label next to their name, like Democrat or Republican.
The current mayor of Orlando is Buddy Dyer. He was first elected in a special election in February 2003. Mayor Dyer was then elected for his first full term in 2004. After that, he has been re-elected many times: in 2008, 2012, 2015, 2019, and 2023.
