Important Moments in Mayoral History
- After Mayor Eugene Goodman Duckworth left office, city commissioner G. H. Sutherland became acting mayor for about four weeks. This happened until a special election could be held. Former mayor James LeRoy Giles won that special election and finished the rest of the term.
- Ernest Page was appointed as an interim (temporary) mayor for about six weeks in 2005. This was while Buddy Dyer was involved in an investigation related to the 2004 election. The questions against Mayor Dyer were later dropped, and he returned to his role as mayor on April 20, 2005.
