The Little Brown Jugette is a special horse race held every year in Delaware, Ohio. It's a type of harness racing, which means the horses pull a driver in a small cart called a sulky. This race is just for three-year-old female horses, called fillies, who are standardbreds and race by pacing. Pacing is a special gait where both legs on the same side of the horse move forward together. The Little Brown Jugette started in 1971. It's like a sister race to the Little Brown Jug, which is for male horses (colts).
History of the Jugette Race
The Little Brown Jugette has seen many exciting moments. In 2003, a horse named Numeric Hanover won the race. This happened after the horse that finished first, Odds On Charmaine, was disqualified. Disqualification means a horse's result is taken away, usually because it broke a rule, like interfering with another horse during the race.
The 2016 race was very memorable. A horse named Call Me Queen Be set a new world record for three-year-old pacing fillies in the first part of the race. Later, a famous driver named John Campbell guided L A Delight to win the main title. This win was John Campbell's fifth Jugette victory, breaking his own record for the most wins in this race. Also, Hall of Fame trainer Robert McIntosh earned his third win, tying him with another legendary trainer, Billy Haughton, for the most Jugette victories by a trainer.
