Little Jack Horner facts for kids

Little Jack Horner is a very old and popular nursery rhyme from England. People first talked about this rhyme in the 1700s. It tells a short story about a boy named Jack and his Christmas pie.
The Story of Jack Horner
The most famous words of the rhyme are:
Little Jack Horner
Sat in the corner,
Eating his Christmas pie;
He put in his thumb,
And pulled out a plum,
And said, "What a good boy am I!"
This rhyme was first fully written down in a book called Mother Goose's melody, or, Sonnets for the cradle. This book might have come out in 1765. However, the oldest copy we still have is from 1791.
The Tune of the Rhyme
The tune that most people know for "Little Jack Horner" was first written down in 1870. A musician and collector of nursery rhymes named James William Elliott recorded it. He put it in his book called National Nursery Rhymes and Nursery Songs.
