The Living Arts Centre is a large building in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. It's a place where you can enjoy many different kinds of art. It opened on October 7, 1997. This centre has theatres for shows, art studios, and a gallery for exhibitions. It's a hub for creativity and performances in the city.

What is the Living Arts Centre?

The Living Arts Centre is a huge building, about 225,000 square feet. It's designed for many uses. Inside, you'll find two main theatres for live shows. There's also an exhibition gallery called the Laidlaw Hall. Plus, there are seven art studios where artists can work. The centre also has rooms for business meetings and events.

Design and Funding

The Living Arts Centre was designed by a company called Zeidler Partnership Architects. They won an award for their design in 1998. The building was paid for by many different groups. Money came from companies, local communities, and individuals. The City of Mississauga and the Government of Canada also helped fund it.

Special Art Inside

When you visit, look for a cool art piece called "Dance of Venus." It's in the main entrance area. This artwork was made by a glass artist named Stuart Reid. It's made of special etched and enameled glass. The glass was even blown by mouth to create its shapes. This amazing piece is very large, measuring 30 feet tall and 150 feet wide.

Theatres and Shows

The Living Arts Centre has two main theatres for performances. The biggest one is called Hammerson Hall. It has tiered seating for 1300 people, like a concert hall. The other theatre is the RBC Theatre. It's smaller, seating up to 400 people. This theatre is flexible; it can be set up for different kinds of shows. Sometimes it has tables for a cabaret-style show.

Events and Visitors

Many different shows, events, and exhibitions happen at the Living Arts Centre. The centre hosts its own events. It also works with local groups. For example, the Mississauga Choral Society and the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra perform here. The Mississauga International Children's Festival is also held at the centre. Many artists use the studio spaces to create their work. Over 400,000 people visit the Living Arts Centre each year.
