Liz Bacon grew up in Kenley, a town in Surrey, England. She went to Thames Polytechnic to study computer science. During her third year, she had an amazing opportunity. She worked at CERN, a huge science lab in Switzerland! She finished her first degree in 1986.

Later, she continued her studies at the University of Greenwich. There, she earned her PhD in a field called artificial intelligence. She received her doctorate degree in 1993.

Liz Bacon has held many important roles in the world of computing. She was the past President of the BCS, which is The Chartered Institute for IT. This organization helps set standards for computer professionals.

She also led the BCS Academy, which is like a special group for computing experts. She was a member of the BCS Council and a Trustee. This means she helped make big decisions for the organization.

Liz Bacon has also worked with government groups. She was part of the Parliamentary IT Committee (PITCOM). She also helped lead EQANIE, a European group that checks the quality of computer education.
