Llallagua (also spelled Llallawa) is a town located in the Potosí Department of Bolivia. Its name comes from the Aymara language and means something like a very large potato or animal. In the Quechua language, it refers to the god of planting time during the ancient Inca Empire.
Llallagua is the main town of the Llallagua Municipality. This area is part of the Rafael Bustillo Province.
Geography and Climate
Llallagua is found in a very high place, almost 4,000 meters (about 13,000 feet) above sea level. This high altitude gives it a special climate, even though the areas around it are quite dry. It's like a small oasis in a semi-desert region.
Unique Weather Patterns
The town has cool summers with some rain. The temperature rarely goes above 22°C (72°F). Winters are colder, especially at night, when temperatures can drop to about -4°C (25°F). This big difference between day and night temperatures happens because there isn't much rain in winter.
