A Glimpse into Llica's Past

Llica has a very long history. People believe this small village has been around for over 500 years. It might even have existed before Christopher Columbus arrived in America.

Early Settlements and Farming

Long ago, the native people of what is now southeastern Bolivia created special farming areas. They grew "papa," which is the Spanish word for potatoes. These potatoes were very important. They provided food for groups of travelers. These groups would cross the high plains, known as the plateau. Llica was one of these important places where food was grown.

Historical Records of Llica

Llica is even mentioned in old documents. One important document is called "Goat Paper." This paper talks about a visit by a Spanish leader named Viceroy Francisco de Toledo. He traveled to the region in 1571. This shows that Llica was an established and recognized place many centuries ago.
