His Family and Legacy
Old historical writings like the Duan Albanach and the Senchus Fer n-Alban tell us about Loarn's family. They say his father was Erc, and his grandfather was Eochaid Muinremuir.
Loarn also appears in some old Irish stories. In one tale from the 700s to 1100s, called "Of The Miracles of Cairnech Here," he is called 'King of Alba' (an old name for Scotland). Another story from the 900s to 1100s, Aided Muirchertach mac Erca, mentions him too. In these stories, a character named Muirchertach mac Erca spends time with Loarn, who is his grandfather. The story says that Loarn later died in a tragic way.
