Loch Lomond Seaplanes is a special kind of airline that uses planes which can land and take off on water. It is based in Scotland.
This airline made history in August 2007. It started the first regular seaplane service from a city centre in Europe! This was from Glasgow Seaplane Terminal on the River Clyde in Glasgow. It was also the first commercial seaplane service in all of Scotland and the United Kingdom.
Loch Lomond Seaplanes has permission from the UK Civil Aviation Authority to fly passengers and cargo. They also have a base near the Cameron House hotel at Loch Lomond, which is where the airline gets its name.
You might have even seen their planes on TV! They have appeared on shows like BBC's Countryfile, ITV's Emmerdale, and NBC's Running Wild with Bear Grylls and Ben Stiller.
How Loch Lomond Seaplanes Started
Loch Lomond Seaplanes began flying in April 2004. Their first plane was a new Cessna T206H, which can land on both land and water. At first, they only offered fun tourist flights.
In 2007, they started offering regular flights, not just tours. In June 2007, they got a bigger plane, the UK's first Amphibious Cessna 208 Caravan.
A special event happened in August 2007. Stewart Stevenson, who was the Minister for Transport, opened the new Glasgow Seaplane Terminal. This allowed the company to start its first regular flights to Oban Bay. Since then, Loch Lomond Seaplanes has often been called a top tourist attraction.
