The Logan Temple Barn is a special building in Logan, Utah. It was built a long time ago, between 1896 and 1897. Its main job was to keep animals for people who worked at or visited the Logan Temple nearby.

What is the Logan Temple Barn?

This barn is quite unique! Most barns in the Cache Valley area were made of wood. But the Logan Temple Barn is one of only two barns in the area built from stone. This makes it very special.

How the Barn Changed Over Time

For many years, people rode horses or used horse-drawn carriages to get to the temple. So, the barn was very useful for housing their animals. But then, cars started to become popular. People began driving to the temple instead of riding horses. Because of this, the barn was not needed for animals anymore.

In 1919, the barn was sold. It was turned into a place where cars could be fixed, like a repair shop! Dr. Thomas B. Budge owned it then. He also owned a hospital across the street. Later, in the 1980s, there was an idea to change the barn into apartments, but this plan was never carried out.

Inside the Barn

The Logan Temple Barn is a square building. It is about 36 feet (11 meters) long on each side and has two stories. It has a wooden roof shaped like a pyramid. The first private owner added a small pigeon house on top of the roof.

The front and back of the barn have large double doors on the ground floor. There is also an original doorway on the east side. In 1919, two more openings were added on the east and west sides. These new openings used concrete instead of the original stone arches. You can also see a hayloft door on the eastern side. There are several windows around the building, some old and some new. Inside, a strong wall in the middle helps hold up the wooden floors and roof.

A Historic Landmark

Because of its unique history and structure, the Logan Temple Barn was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 19, 1985. This means it is recognized as an important historical building that should be protected.
