The London Children's Museum is a special place in London, Ontario, Canada. It's a museum just for kids and families! It was the very first children's museum ever opened in Canada. Carol Johnston started it in 1975 after visiting a similar museum in Boston. Today, many thousands of people visit the museum every year. Amanda Conlon is the current leader of the museum.

The Museum's Journey: A History

The London Children's Museum has moved a few times. It started in the old City Centre. In 1982, the museum found a permanent home. It moved into the building of the former Riverview Public School. This was possible thanks to a grant from the Richard Ivey Foundation. In 2014, the museum sold this building. However, it continued to rent the space until at least 2021.

Exciting New Home for the Museum

The museum is getting ready for a big move! It will soon be in a new, bigger location. This new spot is a former Kellogg's cereal plant. It is located in the east end factory district of the city. The museum will be on the fourth floor of this building. This floor has very high ceilings, about 25 feet (7.6 meters) tall.

Designing Future Fun: New Exhibits

After the move, the museum plans to create many new exhibits. In 2018, a special company was hired to design these new areas. They are creating eight "immersive and interactive areas." These are places where children and families can explore and learn.

What New Exhibits Will You See?

Some of the exciting new exhibits include:

  • A beautiful garden patio area.
  • A main street-themed exhibit, like a small town.
  • A river-themed exhibit, showing how rivers work.
  • A room for archaeological discovery, where you can dig for treasures.

The new location will also have a large playground on the rooftop!

Current Museum Adventures

Even now, the museum has many cool things to see and do. One popular exhibit is Bellina. This is a real whale skeleton that hangs in the museum's main hall. There is also an arctic exhibit. Here, you can learn about cold places and the animals that live there. Another favorite is the dinosaur exhibit. You can explore the world of these ancient creatures.

Museum Connections

The London Children's Museum works with other important groups. These connections help the museum share information and learn from others.
