Lone Cypress facts for kids
The Lone Cypress is a super famous Monterey cypress tree that stands all by itself in Pebble Beach, California. It's perched on a rocky hillside right next to the amazing 17-Mile Drive. This tree is a true symbol of the Western United States and is one of the most photographed trees in all of North America! It's located between two of the world's most famous golf courses: Cypress Point Club and the Pebble Beach Golf Links.
The Lone Cypress Tree
This amazing tree might be as old as 250 years! It has even survived fires. Cables have helped keep it strong and in place for over 65 years. A big storm in 2019 caused it to lose a large branch, changing its look a bit.
Where It Lives
The Monterey cypress tree, like the Lone Cypress, grows naturally in only two places in the world. These special spots are Pebble Beach and Point Lobos.
A Famous Landmark
Back in 1919, a picture of the Lone Cypress became the official symbol (or trademark) for the Pebble Beach Company. They even said this trademark helped protect the tree itself!
