The Story of Lonetree
Lonetree was also known by other names, like Lone Tree or Steele. For almost 30 years, this small community had its own post office.
The Post Office
The post office first opened on March 9, 1888. Back then, it was called Steele. Later, on May 15, 1914, its name was changed to Lonetree. However, the post office didn't stay open much longer. It closed less than a year later, on March 31, 1915.
A Historic Place
Even though Lonetree is now a ghost town, it is still an important place. On September 11, 1980, the entire community was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's recognized for its historical importance in the United States.
