History of Geraldine
Geraldine started as a stop along the Milwaukee Railroad. The town was named after Almira Geraldine Rockefeller. She was the wife of William Rockefeller, who was a director for the railroad at that time. Another possibility is that it was named after her daughter, Ethel Geraldine Rockefeller Dodge.
In 1916, the Milwaukee Road built a train line from Harlowton to Great Falls. The town's train station, called the Geraldine Milwaukee Depot, was also built in 1916. This old wooden building has been fixed up and now shows off the history of the area. It is a special Montana Historic Site and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. During the summer, you can even take a tourist train from Lewistown to Geraldine and visit the restored depot.
