History of Long Island
In August 1833, some important events happened near Port Louis. People from Louis Vernet's settlement had to find a safe place. They went to nearby Hog Island to stay safe from a group led by Antonio Rivero.
To get food, these settlers often sent their boat to Long Island. They brought back cattle, pigs, and geese from Long Island to help them survive.
