Lonnie V. Hunter III, born on July 20, 1965, is a talented American gospel singer and songwriter. He began his music journey in 1998. His first album was called Lonnie Hunter & The Voices of St. Mark. Lonnie's music became very popular, especially his 2011 album, I'm Back. This album appeared on several important music charts, including the Billboard 200. In 2015, he was also chosen to be the voice of the Stellar Awards, which celebrates gospel music.
Early Life and Education
Lonnie V. Hunter III was born in Harvey, Illinois. His birthday is July 20, 1965. His parents are Lonnie V. Hunter, Jr. and Marie. Lonnie is the youngest of five children and has a sister named Cherie.
He went to Western Illinois University. There, he earned a degree in Public Administration and Public Relations. After college, Lonnie served in the U.S. Air Force for five years. He was even part of their Jazz band during his time in the Air Force!
Lonnie's Music Journey
Lonnie Hunter's professional music career started in 1998. His first album, Lonnie Hunter & The Voices of St. Mark, was released on June 23, 1998. His next album, Next Level, came out in 2003.
His third album, I'm Back, was released on April 26, 2011. This album was a huge success! It made it onto three different Billboard magazine charts. It reached No. 135 on The Billboard 200. It also hit No. 4 on the Gospel Albums chart. Plus, it was No. 18 on the Independent Albums chart.
In early 2015, Lonnie signed with Tyscot Records for his next album. He was also chosen to be the official voice of the 2015 Stellar Awards. These awards celebrate the best in gospel music.
For several years, Lonnie also hosted his own radio show. It was called The Lonnie Hunter Show. This show played modern gospel music. It also had fun games like "Clues & Categories" and a weekly "Talent Show". Lonnie's humor and love for music made his show very popular. He often shared laughter, wisdom, and good advice with his many listeners.
Life Outside Music
Lonnie Hunter lives in New Jersey. He is also a pastor at the Bethany Baptist Church. This church is located in Lindenwold, New Jersey, and has many members.
